🛡️ What changed in May 2026
As of version 1.5, your child's cloud photos no longer leave the device. The previous version sent each photo to Google Gemini's AI service for cloud-shape detection; that endpoint is no longer used. Cloud-shape illustrations were pre-generated and bundled with the app — so the game now runs entirely on the device. The only outbound network calls are short kid-safe text strings to ElevenLabs for Nancy's voice. We tightened this policy to reflect the change.
Spottle is a cloud-spotting game made for kids. We take privacy — especially children's privacy — seriously. This policy explains what Spottle does and does not collect, and how the information your child creates inside the app is handled.

Spottle stores the following information locally on the device using Apple's secure on-device storage:
This data never leaves the device unless iCloud device backup is enabled at the iOS system level (controlled entirely by you in iOS Settings). To delete all Spottle data, delete the app from the device or use Settings → Manage Profiles inside the app.
Spottle requests camera access solely to let children scan the sky for cloud shapes. Photos are captured only when the child taps the scan button. Every captured photo is processed entirely on the device — it is never uploaded, never sent to a third-party AI service, and never stored on our servers. The wispy cloud-shapes shown in the game are pre-generated illustrations bundled with the app; the app composites the chosen shape onto your photo locally using the device's own image-rendering pipeline.
Spottle does not perform facial recognition. No image leaves the device, so no image is ever used to train an AI model.
Spottle does not request or collect location data.
Spottle requires no user account or sign-in of any kind. There are no advertisements, no behavioural tracking, and no third-party analytics SDKs embedded in the app. There are no in-app purchases available to children.
Spottle is designed for children under 13. We comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), the EU General Data Protection Regulation as it applies to children (GDPR-K), and the UK Age Appropriate Design Code.
Because all profile data and all photos stay on the device — nothing identifying a child is transmitted to our servers — there is no personal data for us to retrieve or delete. To remove a profile, a parent or guardian can use Settings → Manage Profiles inside the app, or delete the app entirely.

The cloud-shape illustrations shown in the game were pre-generated offline (using Google Gemini's image model) and bundled into the app binary. No live AI call is made when a child plays — the same illustrations ship with the app and run locally on the device.
All network communication between the app and our API uses TLS/HTTPS. On-device data is stored in Apple's sandboxed app container, protected by iOS system security. We do not maintain a database of user data.
A parental gate is shown before any settings that affect the game or profiles, ensuring a parent or guardian confirms sensitive actions. Parents can delete any or all profiles at any time via Settings → Manage Profiles.
If we make material changes to this policy, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
